It’s not my favorite, but I enjoyed this story — more so than the show. I liked Sookie’s voice, which is relatable. I could easily imagine her as the sweet Southern girl that she is by the voice Harris uses to form her character. I was reminded of Twilight while reading. Sookie is almost in a love triangle since she has the affections of two men — one hairy and one pale — quite like being caught between a werewolf and a vampire as Bella was. 2.5 stars. I finished and... um... I really didn't like this one. *ducks for cover* I think it's partly because I've read so much urban fantasy. I know this was one of the first and now I'm comparing it to all of the followers.
I think my problem with the book was Sookie herself. I'm not totally sure why, but I was really irritated by Sookie and pretty much everyone by the end. It was slightly annoying to me that nearly every man was instantly attracted to her.
