The start of a new Tolkien retreading this year, once again I found myself returning to The Hobbit. This book is a must read for all - more accessible than Tolkien’s more complex works, the story is linear and easier to follow and full of twists and turns. It’s an adventure story full of whimsical moments, memorable dialogue, vivid description and intellectual humour. Also for those who have read the expanded lore, it connects more to the Silmarillion even than I realised.

The first chapter in Tolkien's beautiful Middle-Earth series. What else can I say about this classic from 1937, that has not been said? I loved this book and getting go with Bilbo on his amazing journey. My only complaint would be, that we don't get a lot of background behind the ring. But overall I give it an 93% out of 100% A-
