For a Tolkien nerd like me, its hard to improve upon the original, but this book does a wonderful job of providing just enough behind-the-scenes information to be interesting, but not too much to be overwhelming and tedious. The most interesting aspect in my opinion is the various illustrations from places all over the planet, including Russia, Japan, Romania, and Estonia, just to name a few. I think this book definitely ranks among one the the best books I have ever read. Why should heroes be strong and have all the super abilities why can't an inconsequential small hobbit be a real hero? In fact what makes a hero?
