Ah, I still remember the first time I read this one, back when I was twelve or so -- it and The Lord of the Rings in one frantic weekend. It was a good weekend.
Lost count of how many times I've read it since, though it's no longer the all-consuming reading marathon. But still a delight, even if an imp was comparing it to the other Middle Earth works -- Middle Earth not being entirely consistent.

I wanted to read “The Hobbit” again to compare it with the film trilogy. It had been a while since I first read the book, and I was curious how much the movies embellished on the original story. For the most part all the main plot points are represented, but in order to make the three movies, a whole lot of detail was created on storylines that were barely mentioned in the book. For instance, Gandalf’s side adventure to thwart the Necromancer was only a small aside paragraph in the book. It is n

I have read this book twice, but the readings were so far apart I was sure that elves had snuck in and re-written it in the interim. I'm a huge fan of the Peter Jackson movies and loved The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Can't wait for The Desolation of Smaug. We watch the extended version of the The Lord of the Rings at the end of every year. So I'm fan.

A wonderful story that I have come to appreciate even more, now that I am older. It's a timeless tale that I am sure will endure for decades to come! ('course it doesn't hurt to have Hollywood come along a make a bunch of movies about it)
