I must admit that for once, I liked the movie better than the book. I think the movie captured more of the depth of the personalities and situations than did the book. So I say congratulations to the movie makers and actors. It is interesting.

I listened to the OverDrive version borrowed from the library while reading it. Rupert Degas's voice was dull and quiet as the narration of a dulled world. His character voices were also quite appropriate.

It's the kind of book to make you think, "what if?"

Almost poetic in its simplicity, the sparse narrative in this tale of Armageddon perfectly complements the bleak atmosphere without eroding our chance for hope. Details are primarily nonexistent – they serve no purpose in the daily struggle to survive. Survival is the only relevant detail here, yet it constantly questions whether that is enough. We praise the human instinct to survive; yet we too often ignore the cost to our own humanity in the process. Through the eyes of a child, we see that e ...more

baca buku ini bener2 menguras stamina batin. makanya lama. :p (alesan..padahal mah kalo udah ngantuk mah ngga sempet baca ajah).

Dystopian - Yes.
Depressing - Yes.
Well written - Yes.
Well paced - Yes.

My biggest complain with this book was the little boy. For someone who's not known a normal life he should be a little more used to this life no? But he sure whines over a lot of stuff quite a bit. He's what annoyed me most about this entire novel.

Sigh, well I read it. Still not sure if it was worth my time, but I read it.

The Road is a sad and depressing, yet touching, story of the love between a father and son at the end of the world. The book is very bleak and constantly suspenseful - leaving the reader to wonder when the next awful thing will happen to the two as they travel across a post-apocalyptic America. There are a lot of little moments that paint a vivid picture of the hopelessness and desperation of the situation and the love and perseverance that endures. McCarthy used beautiful simplist

It was difficult at the beginning because I had to get used to the rhythm. The writing was very broken and did not have punctuation such as quotations.

The book is about a man and his son on "the road" going south in order to have easier survival in the more moderate climate. I think the most interesting part of the book is that it actually feels like it could be possible. Some apocalyptic novels are too far fetched to be believable. This one is not.

Definitely a good read, intense, and mechanically well-crafted. I can see why it was one of the asssigned books for a UC Santa Cruz literature class.
