I am pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed this novel -- quick satisfying young adult fantasy/supernatural tale.

"It takes a graveyard" to raise a suddenly orphaned baby (re-named Nobody 'Bod' Owens by his adopted dead parents). Silas, another mysterious denizen of this abandoned graveyard-cum-nature preserve, agrees to be the boy's guardian and provide food and clothing for Bod, since the other ghost residents are unable to leave the grounds.

Ok I will admit at times I feel uncomfortable seeing reviews or even just people reading books by popular authors - STOP - dont get me wrong they can be amazing I just feel that I would be following everyone else blindly heaping praise just so I can be seen to be following the trend.

The Graveyard Book was a fun fantasy / children's book. It was reminiscent of The Jungle Book, except instead of the abandoned child being raised by animals, the child is raised by ghosts and mystical creatures in a graveyard. The book is written as a bunch of mini adventures that all related to the child (Nobody) growing up and figuring out who killed his family. the other side of urban fantasy. far from horror and closer to thriller and adventure for me.

lesson learnt:
human is the real monsters, and ghouls. werewolves and vampires and winged mummies are the good guys. XD
