Neil Gaiman is at least partially responsible for my insomnia, because once I pick up a book of his, I can't put it down. The Graveyard Book was no different -- I read it in one sitting. I love the blend of gothic and macabre archetypes that he paints in his own imaginative way throughout the book, which is a loosely connected, but cohesive, series of short stories.

Came to this with high hopes, particularly since it has won the Hugo and the Newberry Award. However, I found it slightly disappointing. Yes there are lovely parts, but the story is nowhere as taut as Gaiman's earlier effort Coraline, and a lot of what's happening and resolved is off-screen. Many of the characters remain underdeveloped, and even the dead need a little more flesh than presented here.
