What did I think of the first couple chapters? Hello Little Mermaid, where is King Triton. That is exactly the impression I got, I even went back to Goodreads to read the synopsis again just to make sure this was not an alternative version of the Disney fairy tale. Once you get past the first couple chapters though it is nothing like what I was expecting. This is an amazing action packed story with twists and turns at every angle. This is definitely not the typical dystopian type of novel; it wa

Hey, you! Yes, you there. I am talking to you. You may deny it but I can tell that you need something.
These: links to buy Renegade either from Book Depository / Kindle / Amazon.
YOU ARE WELCOME.
Yes, guys! Renegade is THAT good. Did I anticipate it? A bit. It has a very gorgeous cover but I thought this is just another irrelevant 'girl with a pretty dress' cover. Heh. I was wrong. That cover is completely relevant to the story.

A typical dystopia that congests the book market nowadays:
- an evil dictator: tick
- a suppressing regime: tick
- a protagonist who suddenly discovers the dark deeds of the regime:
tick
- the compulsory love story: tick
We’ve already sussed the author, right? tick NOO! Because despite the aspects mentioned above I was very entertained by the book!
I was more than surprised and almost shocked to see how action packed the book was. Because Ms. Souders doesn’t mince her words when it comes to describ ...more

"This book was just..WOW. It was an AMAZING book filled with action, lies, a crazy dystopian society, dangerous situations, intense, and yes; ROMANCE. It literally kept me on the edge of my seat and addicted to it from start to finish. An AMAZING debut, I loved it!"
From the above praise you know I LOVED this book. I though, "Gorgeous cover, but the story might measure up" BOY WAS I WRONG! No seriously though it was an AMAZING read. Nothing prepared me for th ...more

I reread this book in 2016 because I was asked to take part in an J.A Souders read-along. Let me tell you, I didn't really remember why I gave this book 4 stars. Let me tell you, now I do.
You were swept up in this novel from the end of the first chapter to the rest of the novel. I liked the intensity and how the novel kept you guessing until the very end.
The only thing that I didn't like was the relationship between Gavin and Evie. It was too fast for me! They barely knew each other!

I absolutely loved the first book in this series! The characters were very well done and I loved how Souders incorporated the brainwashing/conditioning aspects in a way that was both easy to understand and flowed well with the story as a whole. Mother is seriously one of the worst villains I have ever read about and hope to never meet. She is seriously out of her mind with power and I don't think there is a way to bring her back down. There are a lot of very dark and gory scenes so, this book is

I'm supposed to read this for a readalong but apparently I really suck at meeting the deadlines.
Anyway, I still think this was quite good especially the last 100 pages of it. Amazing how much my taste in reading has changed since the last four years. ...more

This book was not at all what I expected. I knew going into it that it was a series and I thought it was a book about a princess-type of character with some typical teen romance and a few twists and turns to keep them apart. What I was NOT expecting was the nightmare-inducing scenes of horror in the second half of the story. I was left with more questions than answers at the end, but instead of being annoyed by this, it just made me look forward to the next book in this series.

I really enjoyed this book. Found it to be hard to put down once I got started. Extremely interesting topic with genetic engineering. I only wish they would have gone a little deeper into the societal repercussions of this controlled society but for a young adult book I think it was still quite good!
