I have no words. I just... I can't... I... AHHHHHHH. (I hope I'm not the only one who feels this way about this book. This was my first Alexandra Bracken book AND I LOVED IT. All of the pieces fit together so well.

OMG!!! Ok, ok, ok, I am in love with this series! From the story to the amazing characters and the amount of emotion I felt reading this book, it was just over all amazing! Any book that makes me want to throw it or cry over it, or get so happy I jump up and down (my OTP), I know it is a good book. Okay, I read Passenger last year and while I enjoyed it, it wasn't anywhere near some of my favorite series, but this isn't about Passenger sorry. I LOVED this book, this one is, in fact, working towards being one of my favorite series. Despite that I'm a little conflicted for one reason: I became so emotionally invested in these books, but the characters didn't feel 100%, which is odd because characters are always #1 in books for me.

Don't get me wrong, I love the characters, and care for them Okay, I read Passenger last year and while I enjoyed it, it wasn't anywhere near some of my favorite series, but this isn't about Passenger sorry. I LOVED this book, this one is, in fact, working towards being one of my favorite series. Despite that I'm a little conflicted for one reason: I became so emotionally invested in these books, but the characters didn't feel 100%, which is odd because characters are always #1 in books for me.

Don't get me wrong, I love the characters, and care for them deeply, but I just feel like I'm missing a part of them to feel wholly connected, but that could most likely be explained by the fact that it is the first book in the series, I'm pretty convinced that by the end I'll be dying of love.

Ruby was such an interesting character to me because she /felt/ things, while she relatably (not a word, I know) tried to hide her emotions, she still had them, and did express them many times. She broke down and cried, she had moments where she was overcome with everything that was going on and I'm obsessed with seeing these real emotions played out.

Liam is another conflicting for me because he's almost /too/ good, I understand having the "good guy heartthrob" character (I started loving him despite myself), but I want to see other sides of him. Some of my favorite scenes of his were when he got mad or broke down because it made him deeper and more complex. Although I also realize that that could be one of his traits, trying so hard to be good that he's attempting to convince himself more than anyone else.

Chubs I enjoyed because I feel like in their circumstance his points are /so/ valid, everything he says makes so much sense, he bring up logical arguments and I just really love that he stands up for what he believes even if it isn't the most sympathetic response. (I thought he was a traitor at one point don't ask me why). Zu I loved because she's so powerful, and although she's scared of using her powers she will, if it means helping her friends. She's so positive and I love that the light hasn't gone out in her despite what she's seen, although I'm worried for her in the her storyline in the next book.

I liked the pacing of the storyline a lot too, the blend of emotional moments and action packed scenes balanced with more mundane moments really helped everything feel more authentic, and I loved Bracken's writing.

In the end, this is still 5 stars for me because I haven't felt so wrapped up and entranced by a book in a couple of months, and I know by the end I am going to be "The Darkest Minds" trash, so I'm looking forward to that. Thank you for reading :) ...more
