Leppoisa kirja. Murakamin fantastinen maailma on ihmeellisen miellyttävä, enkä häiriintynyt, vaikkei outouksia lopussa selitettykään auki. Se jotenkin kuului asiaan.

Erityisesti pidin päähenkilöistä vanhan höperön miehen hahmosta, Nakatasta. Siinä missä kirjan nuorukainen, 15-vuotias karkulainen, kieriskeli eksistentiaalisissa pulmissa, identiteettikriisissä ja heräilevässä puberteetti-iässä, vanhus kuittasi liian filosofisiksi luisuvat aiheet kommentilla "Nakata on hiukan tyhmä." Tarinankertojana Murakami on verraton. Silti myönnän että hypin Hoshino-lukujen yli ja odotin milloin ja miten paksu kirja päättyy.

I've run into two kinds of Murakami novels: tender stories of people's lives intersecting and more postmodern travelogues. Kafka on the Shore is the best one that falls into the latter category, if not overall, that I have yet read, which makes it a remarkable novel.

The categorization is, of course, a simplification: the protagonists travel in most Murakami novels and this one certainly has tender interaction between its characters. Indeed the story that revolves around teenager Kafka and elderl ...more

This was my first Murakami book. Therefore I didn't know anything about his storytelling but I was very content with the fiction he created. Symbolization, first and third person storytelling, leaving up the question marks.. Even though I was bored of way too detailed descriptions and the 'annoying' personalities, I can count this book among the most powerful ones of the modern classics.
