This might be one of the few books that I would have hoped to be longer. I felt that I didn't get to know the characters well enough, only the couple of main characters were relatively "deep". Also I didn't quite understand half of the story but I still found it interesting, though I preferred the part about the scientist and the girl, and would have liked to read more about their life in the village and about other villagers, too. Magical, timeless, primitive, beautiful story. It was marvellous! The more lyrical parts had no doubt lost something or changed a bit in translation (I read the Finnish edition) but it was beautiful nevertheless.

Olipas kiehtova, omintakeinen kirja. Pidin vahvoista tunnelmista ja kauniisti kulkevasta kielestä. Tämä pieni tarina jää varmaankin mieleen.

Sjónin teos Skugga-Baldur ilmestymisvuonnaan 2005 voitti Pohjoismaiden neuvoston kirjallisuuspalkinnon ja sitä en ihmettele yhtään. Kirjassa on kaksi tarinalinjaa eli pastori Baldurin ketunmetsästysretki ja Fridrikin ystävän kuolema ja vasta aivan viimeisillä sivuilla selviää, että mitä tekemistä näillä asioilla on keskenään. Suosittelen!
