I am tired of vampires but I have to say she's creative... It's hard to surprise me but this author did so.

Described as Twilight, but better, so I'm going to check it out.
And they weren't kidding.
Evernight doesn't have the same addictive quality that Twilight does (though I did read the book in one go), but the comparisons are dead on. The writing style, the first person narrative, the unwanted move to a new place, the boy who keeps warning our heroine that he's too dangerous for her, the hidden society of vegetarian vampires, the overwrought, starcrossed love story - all there.

3.5, really. Much, much better than most of the vampire crap I've been reading lately... did that sound too crusty? The setting and plot are really well done: I like the idea of the academy and the need for such institutions, and the protagonist's developmental drama is a fresh take on the increasingly hackneyed vampire dilemma. Also, the romance is credible, with less soulful, tortured staring and dramatic sighing than in some (ahem!) currently popular tales.

I really, really enjoyed Evernight! One plot twist was partially spoiled for me before I read it but I didn't realize how twisty the plot twists were. The story and twists felt fresh. Sort of reminded me of the House of Night series mixed with Hex. I can't wait for book two!
