Loved this book in elementary school. This is my favorite book in the series and the one I remember best also. I love the “half magic” concept. Charming adventure story. Like the kids. Love the magic, especially the way it works in this book. Really imaginative.
Ah, the ABSOLUTE FERVOR with which I adored Edward Eager when I was a kid. This one most of all.

Never one of my favorites of Eager's, but still lovely and fun. I love the way he introduces his characters. He's hilarious and snarky without being like some other children's authors (*coughEBWhiteandNortonJustercough*) who are actually being smug and making fun of children instead of just being awesome.

This book has some surprising magical details that I haven't seen repeated. Some of the vocabulary is dated (un-pc) but it's a good read.

Adam loved this one! It's quite old fashioned, but the children are very clever in a way that feels kind of modern. Good stuff.
