However, the romantic love interest did not work for me at all. Edward's so-called 'stalkerish' behaviour never bothered me, but I got seriously creepy vibes from Damen, and I desperately hoped I was wrong in assuming ...more

I quite enjoyed this novel, even though I had read some bad reviews of it. Lucky I always try out things for myself, because after all a review is just an opinion right? But anyway when I first opened the book, I saw a page outlining what the auras meant. That got me quite interested. I wouldn't call myself a New Age person, but I like to learn a little about everything and I admit I got some pamphlets and books in the mail on things like auras and numerology. Ever Bloom used to be your average sixteen-year-old girl. She was head cheerleader. She was vain about her long blonde hair. She had parents, a little sister named Riley, and a puppy named Buttercup. She even had a boyfriend.

Before I say anything else, let me say that Mallory really loved this book - sometimes he nuzzles the edges to give a book his scent but I've never seen him actually lick pages before! So if your criteria for a book is one that a cat would literally love to eat, this is the one you want.
However, if you want a human's opinion, well, I thought it was good but not quite that good.
It's always difficult to know what an author has read before starting the writing process, whether they've deliberately ...more

Our story so far: girl was once beautiful and popular in another town; tragedy strikes, forcing girl to new town and become an outcast .... Hottie McHotterson new guy starts school and (gasp!) sits next to freak girl! She is drawn to him, because duh, but refuses to admit it.
Sigh.
Talk about trite.
And I'm not just talking about Twilight, either. I see this plot again and again in YA.... There's Hush, Hush, Alice in Zombieland, Shiver, Need, Wondrous Strange, Starcrossed, The Shadow Society, and o ...more
