Fun to read- I liked a lot of the characters and I'm always partial to stories where the heroine starts out wimpy (or in this case broken) and builds herself up through her own gumption and a little help from her friends. The idea of a poison taster was interesting and well used, though it kind of petered out towards the end when the focus shifted more to Yelena's magical abilities. Valek was a great character- mysterious and competent and always there to help out- (view spoiler)
