What Members Thought

The concept is hilarious, and the follow-through is excellent. The book is pleasantly long, with a great sense of pace and anticipation. Practically every page had me cracking up at something, and I loved Audrey's sarcastic voice. The whole thing is over the top, but that's kind of the point, and the resolution works in that context. I thought the uses of pop culture references worked perfectly, but I'm curious to see how quickly this dates the book. It wouldn't have worked as well without a lot

Somehow this slipped through the cracks back when I first read it, so this is an after-the-fact review.
It's a really neat premise - Audrey breaks up with her well-intentioned but sort of a loser boyfriend, only to be humiliated at his band's show that very night when he sings the song he just wrote. About her. And their break up. She figures she's in for a long week, and then someone else will do something even more scandalous, and life will go on.

A very fun, fresh, quick read. Audrey was a great character and I loved being along with her on her (implausible, but what the heck) wild ride through stardom. Robin Benway's dialogue and characterization of friendship were spot-on. The relationship between Audrey and Victoria was my favorite part of the book.
Only weak points (and two our pet peeves of mine):

I read this to see if I could put it in the Albion library. It is about a girl who breaks up with her boyfriend, and then he writes a song that becomes a hit about their break-up. Consequently, the press and everyone else are trying to interview her, and her life is turned upside down. I would have given this book a 4 if it wasn't for the horrible language all the way through it. Bad, bad, bad.....

This was a fun read. I was a big fan of Audrey as a main character. If you want to read this book, you really have to go in with the understanding that although it is contemporary, a lot of the stuff that happens tends towards the unrealistic side. A fun read, and definitely one that music lovers should look into.

Super fun book about a girl who becomes unwillingly famous when her ex writes a song about their break up. All the characters were refreshingly real seeming, and although they faced problems, none were overly dramatized or after school special-ish. Just a nice read about interesting and engaging characters.

It's slight and, yes, predictable, but I really enjoyed it.
