Probably more like 4.5 stars. But this author is growing on me. Now that I’ve gotten used to her jumping around timelines style, I can enjoy the building of the plot and mystery.
Some other reviews said they saw the answers early on. I will say I glimpsed them. But there were so many possibilities that the surprise still happened for me.
My ancestors came from Cornwall and now I want to find out when they lived there and how they might have fit in to this story.

yay! I finally finished this book! I started it on Oct 30th, and finished it on Nov 21st. 3-1/2 weeks is an extraordinarily long length of time for me, usually I finish a book in one week. But I just kept falling asleep while reading! The last 100 pages were gripping, but the first 400 pages were a really long, slow meander to get to where it was going.
I can see now what Ms Morton was doing, slowing winding the stories together, leading us down one path, then another path, and then ...more

For me, this was fun, light reading. It's a decent mystery with plenty of atmosphere. Not memorable, but a "good read."
