I know I'm late to the party as this book is 2 years old and won a ton of literary prizes, but it is wonderful and everyone should read it. So moving and philosophical on matters of death, family, and relationships, as well as a beautiful evocation of 1980s Chicago and contemporary Paris. In terms of books increasing empathy, this story made real for me something of what it was to suffer the loss of your friends, lovers, and community as a result of the AIDS epidemic.
