Reads like a retelling of a fairy tale, about a gardener's daughter who escapes a terrible curse and goes into the woods to find help, accompanied by her pet fox and a large bear. There is glorious, flower-based magic, and ancient mysteries, and a number of surprising reveals. The ending pleased me greatly.

Cerys is a gardener's daughter with a hint of magic after she was attacked in the forest, at the same time that her best friend (and the princess) lost her brother. Her village is only safe from the wood because of the crown given to the king by the Lady of the Wilds. When the walking dead attack at the princess's coronation, Cerys takes the crown and escapes with her fox friend into the forest. Only her fox friend has magically become human, and there's also a bear who seems to be their guardia
