Alias Grace portrayed a young woman accused of murder in the middle 1800's in Canada. I was fascinated by the research Atwood did to describe how the life was for a servant back then, and it felt authentic. It spent a lot of time in Grace's head in which she seemed simple, but was she? I am not a fan of period pieces, but I really enjoyed this book and looked forward to reading it every day as it offered many of the elements I enjoy. Mystery, romance, unpredictibility, and family.

Read this book while sitting at the courthouse, waiting to serve jury duty -- how appropriate! This was a great book -- Ms. Atwood is just hard NOT to like, and the fact that the story was based on a real-life story made it even more interesting.
