I didn't expect to like this book, but I did, very much. What kept me reading was the main character, Primrose, who seemed separate from, in her youthful perspective, and yet a part of, the crazy/interesting people and events around her. And the idea of serving food on a waffle had a kind of appeal to me. Made me want to try it...

This is a sweet story about a girl whose parents were swept away in a storm, and she's alone in believing they'll return. One of the adults who befriends her owns a restaurant where each meal is served "on a waffle," and each chapter is followed with a recipe that is referenced in the story. Highly recommended, and I want to try the recipes.

quirky and amusing. I laughed out loud a couple times, but didn't really fall for any of the characters or the story.
