This book could've used better editing. There were bits that were so bad, it pulled from the story. Simple things too! Like a guy doing a crossword, and the main character "noticed he had yet to complete a single word" but then in the next paragraph the guy asks for a six-letter word beginning with T. Sure, maybe he had a word in mind and was trying to verify it before writing it in, but it's just weird and distracting. Likewise when there's a mistake on dates that a character was due back from

I don't know why it's taken me so long to pick up this book. It was exactly as captivating as the back blurb had led me to believe. It had some issues with pacing in places, but considering it's a debut novel, I can look past that, and am keen to see how he improves in later books. The killer's motivation didn't come across as entirely realistic to me (or rather, the punishment didn't quite fit the crime), but still somehow fit the story.
