This was a brilliant look at what it's like to pick up the pieces after a friend's death. I empathized with the main character, and with all the characters, so much. A lovely, lovely book, and important look at the effects of depression and suicide on the people who surround the depression sufferer.
I have to say, though, I'm so used to the format of Forman's other books, the He said/She said duologies that she has put out before, that I almost didn't know what to do with this stand alone. It wa ...more

So very close to perfect for me! First, the great. Cody's voice, Scottie (all of him, what little we see), and the question of the culpability of All_BS in Meg's death. I've even mentioned that aspect to the ethics teacher at school. The idea that Cody cannot understand, or accept, Meg's suicide is powerful and completely reasonable for someone of her age and experience, as is the guilt she feels about not having been as close with Meg as she used to be when they were in school together. The pro

Cody has felt unmoored since her best friend Meg committed suicide. When Meg's parents ask Cody to go clear out Meg's college dorm room, she starts looking for clues as to why a bright, vibrant girl like Meg could have been so depressed she wanted to die. On Meg's laptop she discovers that Meg was active in a suicide support forum and that one user in particular seemed to push her towards the final act. As Cody tries to find the anonymous user, she discovers a lot more about her friend.

Extremely well-written like all other books I've read by Gayle Forman so far. Very dark though, and I found myself having to take breaks in order for things not to get too bleak.
I'm actually slightly surprised that I liked this book as much as I did - I usually have a huge problem with suicides in books and movies. I think it helped that the suicide itself happened "off-screen" - so to speak - and that the book focused more on the aftermath - coping with having a friend/relative commit suicide a ...more

When her best friend Meg drinks a bottle of industrial-strength cleaner alone in a motel room, Cody is understandably shocked and devastated. She and Meg shared everything—so how was there no warning? But when Cody travels to Meg’s college town to pack up the belongings left behind, she discovers that there’s a lot that Meg never told her. About her old roommates, the sort of people Cody never would have met in her dead-end small town in Washington. About Ben McAllister, the boy with a guitar an
