It's really hard for me to rate this book. It's the story of two bright boys who worry about the consequences of having two seconds added to the year in 1972. Something goes horribly wrong just as the two seconds are being added, and the book skips back and forth from 1972 to the present time where we meet another man, Jim, who has suffered some psychological scars and spent some time in a mental institution. Like her first book, The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry, I devoured Perfect in a couple of sittings. I love this author. Rachel Joyce manages to convey so much with the smallest bit of dialogue, gesture or thought. She was an actress before becoming an author and maybe that's where she gets her amazing feel and ear for drama. ...more
