I found the unapologetic use and display of wealth, and the preoccupation with social status and family/economic/political connections, offensive, so I had to stop taking the story seriously to be able to continue reading the novel and to enjoy it. Will still read the newly-released sequel "China Rich Girlfriend".

I feel many ways about this book? I only became really motivated to read it with the release of the trailer for the movie, so it was great to imagine Constance Wu as Rachel as I read this. Everything else about it was... meh. Granted, I only read certain types of books for fun at this point, so I don’t know what non-romance/YA-fiction looks like at this point, but the storytelling was meh; the characters felt undeveloped (I have Feelings about the complete lack of anxiety Rachel felt about using

loved this series!

3.5 stars…plan on continuing the series.

This is a sweeping family saga of multiple generations of, as the title says, crazy rich Asians. I recommend it if you like to read about complex family relationships and super luxurious lifestyles (jetting off to Macau and then Australia at a moment's notice!) I super recommend this if you have been or plan to go to Singapore. I think my love of Singaporean food which is lovingly described here upped my rating by at least a half star. No matter what, though, this is a fun read.
