Did not finish, I truly couldn't care about what happens next less.

This book sucked me in from the very beginning. As much as I found the mystery interesting, I was much more taken by Rachel and her sad, lonely existence. Every morning Rachel wakes up with a feeling of dread and tries to piece together what she did while drunk the night before. Her shame and self-loathing are palpable and they put a knot in my stomach. The actual mystery was sort of secondary to me I guess. I quickly suspected how things were going to turn out so that part wasn't quite as excit

I read this in one sitting, so it has that going for it. I also appreciated the twisty stuff until I finally figured it out. Hawkins also does a good job maintaining the tension. The negatives: there's no one to like in this book - everyone we meet is royally screwed up and I feel like everyone is lying to me, so it's hard to relate. Rachel's story in particular was rather painful to read; she's just so hopeless. I don't understand the introduction of one certain character who seemed to have no

Well told thriller with engaging characters and a steady plot. I did figure out "whodunnit" well before it was revealed, but it was still far enough in the story for me to be surprised. I'm a little puzzled by all the people who compare it to "Gone Girl," as it is NOTHING like that book (this one had a much more satisfying ending), other than that they both have "girl" in the title. I liked both books--but they are in no way similar.

It is difficult for me to read books in which I do not like the characters. I didn't like these characters, hence the two stars. It was compelling, but then I got so impatient with Rachel. Maybe that says more about me than it does about the book, but I just didn't enjoy it.

A good thriller! Rather Gone Girl in its twists and turns. I'm not a huge fan of the alternating first person narratives, but they were used to good effect here.

Would have liked to give it 3.5 stars, but since it kept me engaged and reading, I'll round up. There are definitely some problematic aspects of the book in terms of how it frames the lives of women. I would have liked to have seen some female characters who were not completely defined by their relationships to men or children. However, I found that the pacing was good, and overall I enjoyed myself. It was a fun, quick read for a day home sick in bed.

I liked the book, but at the same time, I'm "meh" about it. There wasn't anything wrong with it - it was well-paced, easily read, interesting characters, but there wasn't anything that really grabbed me. I don't know if I've just read too many from the genre or what. I liked it, it was good, but it's ultimately forgettable, in my opinion.
