I gave this book 2 stars simply because I finished it - - -I generally do tend to finish audiobooks because skimming is impossible, and while I THOUGHT I knew "who done it", I couldn't be sure until I got to the last disc.

The fact that I was right - - -and had figured it out at disc 3 - - was just one part of why I gave this book such a low rating.

Other problems besides predictability: this book had everything but the kitchen sink thrown into the mystery. The references to old writings composed

*I received a pre-published copy of this book, but that will not affect my review of The Fifth Petal.*

I remember loving The Lace Reader many years ago, although I didn't recall the plot in great detail in advance of reading The Fifth Petal. That said, I was definitely looking forward to reading it.

The thing is: this author isn't a good writer. I read her first book because it was local and I liked the idea behind it, but the actual plot didn't make sense.
This one is the same way. The plot is ridiculous. The writing is corny. Things happen that just make no sense or have nothing to do with anything else.
The extremely rich family who are a main plot point have a house that feels like a high-schooler's idea of what a rich family would have.
And worst - the book just drags.
