Weird vaguely apocalyptic near future, with time travel? Yes please!

Fascinating concept, immersive world-building, and a gorgeous cover all add up to 4 stars, but to be honest, I didn't really like this book. It was "very good" and I didn't like it.

This is one of the worse implementations of the idea of time travel I've read. It took me awhile to wrap my head around it because it made so little sense. It seems like the only reason someone would travel to the future is to buy someone else a cure for the flu. So you have to love someone enough to sacrifice years of your life for them, yet be willing to not see them for 12 years, but they can't be your child. I am a sucker for anything related to time travel, and wanted to love this book. It started out so well, and I didn't hate it, but it just kind of petered out in the end. TBH, the ending was probably more realistic than (view spoiler)
