4.5 stars.
It was almost EXACTLY like the movie, except in the movie, Stanley is chubby and loses weight over the course of his stay at Camp Green Lake.

I'm glad to see this book on the summer reading lists of many junior high schools. Subversive and exciting, Holes includes great characters and plot, and best of all is set at a punitive youth camp! Here is an author who really knows his audience. And adults will love it too!
