I reviewed this book back when I read it. I'm letting Eleanor review it this time, as we just finished reading it together. I may let her do the whole thing without asking her any questions... Let's give it a shot.
I give this book 5 stars. My favorite part of the book was when (view spoiler) It had a very happy sad ending, but I am not going to tell you what the ending is because I don't want to spoil the end of the story.

Stanley Yelnats IV is not a bad kid. He was just in the wrong place at the wrong time which happened to lead to him getting arrested. In fact, all of the Stanley Yelnats right back to the first had a knack for being in the wrong place at the wrong time and just being all around unlucky. Each Stanley Yelnats knows exactly where that unfortunate knack comes from. It comes directly from Stanley's no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing great-great-grandfather.

All I have to say about this book is this: Why didn't I read this years ago? Why haven't you already read it, too? It is quirky and funny and suspenseful and thoughtful and touching.

YA. Stanley Yelnats' family is cursed, and now he's stuck digging holes at Camp Green Lake after wrongfully being convicted as a shoe thief. Here's my problem -- I'm one of those people who likes to read the book before seeing the movie and I accidentally watched Holes before I read it. This is a cute story with a lot of pieces that fit together nicely, but the writing's only average and the book and the movie are similar enough that I didn't gain anything by reading the book after the fact.

4.5 stars.
It was almost EXACTLY like the movie, except in the movie, Stanley is chubby and loses weight over the course of his stay at Camp Green Lake.
The writing style was really fun, and it was just an overall great read, just like the movie was an over-all great movie.
