Here's another book that didn't live up to its glowing reviews, in my opinion. It was a good enough story - it went between the present and the 1780s-90s - but it just didn't resonate well with me. A present-day librarian is sent a book by a bookseller halfway across the country because the bookseller sees that the librarian is a descendent of one of the people in the book. I liked the originality of the plot and the fact that it had a mystery to it. The characters were mostly flat, and the women especially did not make sense (odd since the author is a woman). Both Alice and Enola are always mad at Simon and although he loves them both we never see any interaction that would make their supposed closeness plausible. But as a plot- and setting-driven book it was a good read.
