What Members Thought

I think this book works best when read as a fable for making your own family and opening your heart to the world instead of waiting for the world to come to you. Read as a more straightforward narrative, the one-dimensional characters and simplified racial coding (black people are close to nature and in touch with their emotions; white people are neither until they learn to be so from their experiences with black people) are frustrating and disheartening.

Pretty good story, although it wasn't a book that I couldn't put down. I figured the story out before the main character did. Good ending.
