A fun discovery! I grabbed this in the train station, with only a few minutes to pick something before boarding a train. I like that the format is inventive - Jane is faced with a decision, and it takes us through a different story for each possible decision. In each story she learns some surprising facts about the world and about her Aunt Magnolia, and all these "facts" fit together, although no individual version of Jane knows them all. If you love Kristin Cashore’s Graceling books this is definitely a departure in some ways, but is also soooooo good. Jane goes to stay with a wealthy friend in a mysterious house on an island and runs into a bunch of mysteries that are only revealed when we see the different choices Jane makes. The book is dreamy and beautiful with a lot of great characters and an ambitious structure. I found it difficult to put down, but also wanted to read more slowly to stay in the world of the book longer.

I spent almost three weeks slogging through this, and I'm really sad to give it one star. I only persisted in reading it because I LOVED Graceling so very much. After I read a couple of rave reviews of this book, I was puzzled to find it really boring. It's one of those books that makes me feel like I am perhaps not intelligent enough (to appreciate it).
