Jane is a poor college drop-out who was recently orphaned for the second time when the aunt who raised her dies. An old acquaintance invites her to stay at a beautiful country home that hosts an eclectic and stunning collection of masterworks of art. Intrigued, and frankly having nothing better to do, Jane acquiesces. Over the course of just a few days at the mansion (so arty and famous it even has a name, Tu Reviens) she makes several umbrellas, falls a bit in love, and has a wide variety of ad ...more

"There are many lives in every life."

Jane's life has always been ordinary and she has never minded that. When her Aunt Magnolia dies under strange circumstances, Jane is suddenly adrift and alone. She doesn't know exactly how Aunt Magnolia died. She doesn't know if she wants to go back to college. All she really knows is that if she is ever invited to Tu Reviens, she has to go. It was the last thing Aun

This book is a slow burn and it's not going to be the YA book for everyone. I think people who liked Bitterblue will end up being big fans of this one.

There are a lot of small, fantastical elements to this story that I love, like the fact that Jane makes umbrellas.

A lot of readers will find the ending of this story rather unsatisfying. In some ways, it was the ending I expected, but a lot of people aren't going to find it conclusive.

No review of this one because I don't really know how to pull m

DNF: The first half was wonderful, but then... WTH happened? I skimmed on, hoping it was a dream sequence but no such luck. The incredibly abrupt change in tone and plot just did not make sense.

Probably better as a choose your own adventure

I want to start by saying this looks like a hard book to write and Cashore definitely did justice to everything. Just.. it got boring after the third redo. She did everything well including the planted hints and developing the ideas of multiverse etc.... But in not really developing any story, we got really good at the first story. It did read like a choose your own adventure and that's not always that great.... Also the tense shifts were more distra

Popsugar 2019 Reading Challenge: A choose-your-own adventure book (hey, close enough)

I don't know why, but I just didn't connect with this book. It was kind of a slog the whole way through for me, and I would probably have put it down if it wasn't my last hope of fulfilling the reading challenge.

That said, it's not a bad book and you might like it a lot! I just didn't, for some reason.

I spent almost three weeks slogging through this, and I'm really sad to give it one star. I only persisted in reading it because I LOVED Graceling so very much. After I read a couple of rave reviews of this book, I was puzzled to find it really boring. It's one of those books that makes me feel like I am perhaps not intelligent enough (to appreciate it). ...more

Almost a choose your own adventure- but told from within. A wonderful puzzle of a book with dogs and mystery and intrigue.
