This was a little too edited and smooth (which was mentioned in the appreciation section), but it was kind of amazing reading about this girl transforming herself. It got a little heavy handed as she neared completion, but it kind of reminded me of when I was in ninth grade, and we moved to a new school, and I had the chance to start over. Maya Van Wagenen considered herself to be pretty much bottom of the social ladder in her Texas school. Ehh. Fine, but everything was rather convenient. And occasionally I was uncomfortable by all the casual homophobia, but hey, that's real life. In general, nothing particularly outstanding or groundbreaking in content or style, and not s lot of deep introspection or critique of Betty Cornell's book, but a fine read and a promising writer.
