I'm not going to lie; reading this book is pure nostalgia for me. I first read the Myth books when I was fourteen or so, and I loved the heck out of them. I read and re-read them, and last year I saw that there are still books being published in the series. Asprin is dead, but another author has picked up the mantle. Honestly, I'm not interested in any of those, or any of the ones he co-wrote, but the idea of re-reading the series again, as an adult, made me giddy.

Skeeve's wizard master, Garkin, is killed by an assassin when summoning a demon to show Skeeve the rewards of magic. As it turns out the demon is an old friend of Garkin named Aahz who has been stripped of his power by the joke powder Garkin used in the summoning. I have always enjoyed fantasy novels and I have a fond place in my heart for campy pun filled fantasy and Robert Asprin definitely writes books that fit the bill. His books remain good although they do not quite stand up to the test of time.
I’m revisiting these in Audible form - the narrator’s voice is so unlike what I imagine Aahz sounding like that I almost quit, but I got used to it, and I will listen to another one.
This series did not live up to the hype for me.
