A bunch of my goodreads friends loved this book, so I had high expectations for it. That and the fact that I felt pressured to finish it before it was due back at the library made it so I didn't really enjoy it. I promise I'm not consciously trying to hate all the things you like so I can be some pretentious hipster. Obviously this book has amazing writing! There are some phrases that still haunt me, like the man who upholstered himself in his uniform (metaphorically), or the shoes with tongues

Great characters. Love the portrayal of living in a fascist country, the radio whiz, the lockmaker, and the blind girl. Sometimes it gets a bit ponderous and philosophical with the prose, those sections are not my favorite.
A spectacular and poignant story of innocence and WWII, all with DeBussy's Claire de Lune playing in the background.

Simply one of the best, most well-written books I've read in a long time. The writing style was so beautiful, I found myself captivated by every word. Everything was so lush and descriptive. I was especially impressed by the way the author wrote Marie-Laure's chapters. He described everything so beautifully that I'm surprised he isn't blind himself.

I know this book has been on the bestseller lists for quite a while but I didn't love it. In fact, there were times when I considered putting it down for good. I liked it but I just couldn't quite get into it the way I had expected to.

A book that I am very happy to have bought --- the story of Werner and Marie-Laure is almost impossible to put down, and a book that I believe will reveal more and more with each subsequent reading.
