This first book in the Midnighters series was a fun ride. The mythology/world of the midnighters was very different and fascinating. Also, the main character is a redhead named Jessica Day- how could he go wrong?
This book was fast-paced, exciting and inventive. I was completely captivated by the whole idea of a secret hour existing in the stroke of midnight and the world the author makes in that hour is wonderfully imagined. While I was reading it I thought I didn't care as much about it as I did Scott Westerfeld's other trilogy, the "Uglies" series, but as soon as I finished it I was desperate for the next one.

Surprisingly good teen urban fantasy. Each of the characters has a very specific, cliche-free personality, and I love the rules and tricks that govern both the good guys and the bad. Who knew that thirteen letter words could be used to fight evil?
Creepy and suspenseful, this book is very creative and I am excited to read the next book in the series.
