What Members Thought

I enjoyed this book when I was about ten, but my most vivid memory is the movie version, which I was forced to watch over and over again, whenever we had a substitute teacher. The scene where he horribly burns his hand pops up in nightmares on a regular basis.

Great historical fiction for kids! It's the story of a young boy during the Revolutionary War. I first read this book in 5th grade, and have returned to it many times since then. I NEVER get tired of it.
If you enjoy John Jakes' Kent Family Chronicles, as well as kiddie lit, you NEED to read this book. I've always thought of this as the prequel (at least in my reading history) to The Kent Family Chronicles. ...more
