This one took me a while to get through because I had the crappiest temp job this week and I just couldn't do that and cope with the heavy material in the book at the same time. I was all set to give this 5 stars, but I wasn't sure about the epilogue - I was expecting something to be addressed that wasn't. But all in all, Jodi Picoult does it again with another heartbreaking story that makes you think and sticks with you.

This was the first book I ever read by Jodi Picoult. A teenage couple make a suicide pact but only the girl dies and the boy is put on trial. The kids grew up together as their parents are best friends so the book is also about the family's response. The only issue I had with the book was the fact that what the girl went through that supposedly lead to her being suicidal seemed kind of minor to me, but who am I to judge I guess.

When it starts with a tragedy, how can it have a great ending? I enjoyed Picoult's way with words, but the story itself was a little close to home for me to let myself get too deeply involved.

This was pretty good. I didn't want to put it down, and it was interesting. But it wasn't quite as gripping as she usually is.

As usual with Picoult's books, an interesting conflict of ideology.
