I noticed that many people who have read all or nearly all of Kate Morton's books gave this one less than 5 stars. This is only the second one of her books that I've read and I loved it! There's a lot to keep track of with multiple time frames and multiple story lines, but I enjoyed going back and forth in time reading about the people who were all connected in some way to the lovely Birchwood Manor. I would have abandoned this book about 100 pages in, except that I was reading it for a book club. I just couldn't force myself to read it, so I got the audiobook. Then I ended up thoroughly enjoying it! It is a long, complex, interwoven story, and sometimes it was hard to keep the people straight. I still had the physical book, and kept paging back to check things. I'm giving it to my 90-year-old dad and then my 23-year-old daughter, and I'm quite curious to see what they think of it. A big, sweeping story, a mystery, art and archivists, a mysterious house, and a large cast of characters covering about 150 years - right up my alley! I read most of it as an ebook, which was frustrating because I often wanted to flip back to remind myself of how various characters were connected, or to reread a passage with new information in mind.
