I've read this book before, way back in 2003. The series was running high at the time, and I figured it was time to give it a read. I wasn't that impressed, but maybe it was because I expected more from it. Later, I watched the first few episodes of the Netflix show, and figured I'd revisit the series. When I saw there was an audiobook, narrated by Tim Curry, with a full voice cast, I decided that was the way to go.

I didn't like this book when I first read it - too much Count Olaf. He needs to be treated like leavening - just enough to lighten the story, not enough to make it taste bad.

Not sure if what I listened to was abridged or not, but I am still unsure as to how the "loophole" worked. It didn't really make sense to me.
