I know I read at least some of this when I was a kid, so reading it again as an ebook (and as an updated one at that - there are now mentions of Twitter and iTunes) is totally weird but also awesome. I still have issues with the way they deal with adoption, because you could be less awful about it while still using it as the device you need it to be. But really, this is just a lot of fun.

This is pretty decent middle-grade fiction. The story was not particularly original but it was well plotted with no gaping plot-holes or contrived coincidences.
The writing style was in good English but a little uninspired though my favourite quote was:
"If he were any dumber, he'd have to be watered twice a week"
