Absolutely loved it!!!!!
I love Kate Morton. But she is doing a lot of the same things in all of her books--parallel stories, secrets from the past. Don't get me wrong--she does this well. But I didn't love this as much as "The Forgotten Garden" or "The Distant Hours" which is why it's only 4 stars. And the advanced reader copy was riddled with unnecessary hyphens which bugged me. This is the second Kate Morton book I have read. I like her combination of mystery and historical fiction. I will be reading another of her books (and recommending this one for our book club!)
Kate Morton knows how to write good, gothic stories full of dark family secrets and mysterious characters who hold the keys to their unlocking and The Secret Keeper was one of her best, IMHO. It's got a murder, a love story, a betrayal and a decades old grudge which unfolds in England before the second world war and continues to the present day when the next generation finally figures out what really happened. I am ... a tad confused. It ended like I thought it would when I first started, but there was an incident in the middle of the book that I thought nullified my theory. Ag.
