Not unlike other Goodreads reviewers I was going to rate this book three stars until the last twist to the plot at the end. I probably should have seen it coming since the book was a bit formulaic in how it alternated between the the present day, with its sleuthing character, and the two time periods in the past, one of which only the reader is privy to, but damn if it didn't gobsmack me!

This is the second Kate Morton book I have read. I like her combination of mystery and historical fiction. I will be reading another of her books (and recommending this one for our book club!)
