Adored the first entry in this series...the Spellmans are a wonderfully witty, crazy family and I can't wait to spend more time with them. The mystery was almost superfluous here, but that wasn't a bad thing. I was a bit surprised at some of what happened toward the end....perhaps this wasn't originally intended to be a series?

4.5. Reading this book inspired me to brush up on my negotiation skills. I decided I wanted a bite of Adam's ding dong (not a euphemism), but only a bite from the middle, which is obviously the best part. When he returned from the kitchen with his confection, I said I wanted a ding dong. He refused. I threatened to eat the last ding dong, but offered to compromise by "only" having a middle bite from the one he was holding.
After some grumbling, I won.

From the synopsis, I was expecting a mystery book, but this is more like a series of essays on a dysfunctional, yet very loving family. The tempo of the dialogue made this a quick and fun read, and the characters are great. I don't know how the rest of the series will go, but I'll probably check back in with the Spellman's when I want a light (and very funny) read.

I'm not really a mystery lover, but this one made me laugh--lots of quirky characters.
