women's health calls this book "2016's ANSWER TO GONE GIRL"

dear women's health - please leave the readers' advisory work to trained professionals and stick to telling us how much water we should be drinking. for our vaginas.

this is nothing like Gone Girl. it's nothing like The Girl on the Train. i'm not even sure this can be classified as psychological suspense, really. this is a straight-up th

By all outer appearances, Grace has the perfect marriage. But behind closed doors, her husband Jack is a monster. For a year Grace has been literally held prisoner in her house, fearing the day when her sister Millie, a teen with Down's Syndrome, finishes school and comes to live with them, for Jack has plans for Millie. I am dumbfounded by the positive reviews for this book. The only thing I’m more surprised by is how much of it I managed to read. It was readable but.... it felt as if it was written by a teenager taking her very first creative writing class who has not yet mastered the art of dialogue.

An entertaining, suspenseful read for sure. I did find it hard to believe-the one dimensional evil husband and the way he was able to take over her life. You just have to accept her circumstances even if it feels far-fetched. They live in the same area. She had people who could disprove his invented narrative. But, at the same time, this is the life of battered, mental and/or physical, women. It felt like an episode of 48 hours. At least it has a satisfying ending.
