After about a hundred pages I started getting a little annoyed by. 17-year-old Evie is Not Like Other Girls: she’s a flapper from Ohio with supernatural powers that get her sent off to Manhattan to live with her uncle, where she hangs out in speakeasies, gets drunk a lot, and tags along to grisly murder scenes. At 17. She’s also kind of stupid, selfish, and not very likeable.

Enjoyable, though not a book I felt strongly about. She took a long time to assemble her cast of characters, and there were a lot of them, so it took awhile to get into the story. Also, the prologue tells the readers who the murderer is, which took away the suspense of watching the others figure it out. Once they had an idea of who it was and started trying to catch him I got more engaged in the book. I'd read the next in the series, though not in a rush.
