Danny Cartwright is indeed a prisoner of birth. The product of London's East End, he is convicted for a crime he didn't commit because the four men testifying against him are all gentlemen of England's upper class. That's not the way justice is supposed to work, but too often it's the way it works. He is sentenced to 22 years in London's notorious Belmarsh prison from which no inmate has ever escaped.

What follows is a modern retelling of The Count of Monte Cristo, a book to which I would give fi

Whoa!! What a good book -- definitely reminisce of Count of Monte Cristo, but there isn't any subterfuge in the parallels, in fact, it was directly referenced throughout the book. Makes me want to go read more of Jeffrey Archer's work! ...more

Jeffrey is back with a bang. Its definitely in the league of Kane & Abel and Not a penny more, Not a Penny Less.

For a change Jeffrey does not span through several generations this time. The whole book has a time span of less than 5 years, but boy! a hell of a five years I must say.

The only disappointment I felt after reading the book was that it was over :), something which I clearly remember feeling after completing Kane and Abel as well.

I highly recommend this to one and all. Enjoy!!!

This was probably one of the best books I have read. I loved the twists and turns that Archer infused and yet still made it realistic. I kept thinking it had me pulled in much like Dan Brown's Angels and Demons did but with a more realistic story.

By the last third of the book I could hardly put it down and found myself groaning out loud when things happened and reading faster so that I could get to the next page. I love when a book does this!
