I really liked the quirky nature of her first book, Special Topics in Calamity Physics.

This book is also quirky.

Reversal candles; red coat; really bad fathering; unopenable boxes.
Being lost in the woods, in the tunnels, in a film set.
Piecing together a life.
Disappearing.
Italics.

Several things conspired to make me give up on this book about 20% of the way through, but I think the intense overuse of italics for every point of emphasis--often multiple times in each paragraph--was really what pushed me over the edge.

WHAT a RIDE. I dont generally dig books with a grizzled dude protagonist but the rest of it more than made up for that.

I loved this at first -- it is a very creepy page turning that kind of messes with your mind. I got a little impatient with it as it went on -- maybe it seemed a little too aware of its own cleverness? But a well done unique book.
